wasted link?

First day on the job, so forgive me for such a basic question but...

I have a number of links to [example.com...] will these be recognized as links to my home page or should they be [example.com...]
I know browsers don't care, but do google & co?

Using [example.com...] is better. If you need to change in the future, it accommodates index.html, index.htm, index.php, and so forth automatically.
