So I have a brand new website that I just launched last monday. No pr to speak of but not grayed out either. Sent out some link requests. One person asked to see my traffic stats. I told him the site was brand new and didn't have any meaningful traffic yet. He asked to see hits, visitors sessions, etc.. Like I said it's brand new so I forgot to turn logging on, and yes that is the truth, but I did have bandwidth graphs. I explained I forgot to turn them on , and sent the graphs, and I could send the other info in weeks time if he likes. He says sure but he'd like to have access so he could run the stats himself.

Not that I've got any thing to hide, and not that I'm even remotely considering giving him access, but that does seem highly unusual to me. Anybody else ever have anything like this happen to them?

Forget him. It's none of his damn business (not to that level anyway).

And the time you spend trying to satisfy his interest could be spent on getting a dozen more links.

BTW - he wants access to your webserver? On any level? Find a short cliff and point him towards it.

Maybe you should just give him access to your credit cards and banking info? Wouldn't this save time?

That's bizarre, Graywolf, next he'll want root access to your server. I think it's OK for a potential link partner to ask a few questions prior to linking, both to avoid so-called bad neigborhoods and also to assess whether it's worth working on some kind of enhanced link deal. For a free link, though, detailed stats (much less stats access) aren't necessary. This guy is just trying to see where your traffic is coming from so he can grab some of it.

My guess is that he has another site that would compete with yours, and he is looking for info. on his competitor (you). That is the only explanation I can think of for such a strange request.
