Having said that, you'll also benefit greatly from links on permanent content pages as well. If you scan past threads here in Link Development, you'll find lots of hints on how to find directories that will list you and how to find appropriate sites and request links from them. For a starting point, check the Link Development Library [webmasterworld.com]. Happy hunting!

I will definately do some searching in the Link Development section...I am fairly new to the site and still haven't had time to see everything. I am always suprised and amazed by the wealth of information on this site.

My site is an ecommerce site, our visitors are all customers working in professional office environments and/or IT professionals...in either case both already know what they want to buy and are just looking for the best price, so I'm not sure how much relavant 'content' I can add...there simply isn't much of a need for it by the visitors. I am still brainstorming on some possibilities. We do however have good descriptions for each procuct and manufacturer, so that is some content atleast.
I am fairly new to the site and still haven't had time to see everything.Good luck! There is some much here I not sure it's humanly possible read all the old stuff, keep current with the new, and partisapate, unless, maybe, if you were a speed reader and spent every waking moment at this site.
I am always suprised and amazed by the wealth of information on this site.An understatement!
Back to the topic...
It's very possible to have an ecommerce site with a lot of content about the widgets and related news. Also, considering you're selling something, it might be worth it to pay for a link. To get someone to want to link to you, you will need to give them something in return: either content or money.
BTW, you could also use something like AdWords to generate traffic.
I am looking into a pay for link service, as you mentioned, it takes either money or some type of equal exchange and considering the nature of my site, money seems to be the way I will have to go. But, as they say, 'it takes money to make money'.
As far as PPC, we do actually use adwords already and overture for that matter...but the CPC of keywords on adwords has quickly risen to the point of where it is simply too expensive to continue with...atleast that it the case with most the 'critical' keywords. This is what really made me decide to make the site more crawler-friendly.
