Yahoo Directory does not increase Page Rank?

Since the links in the Yahoo Directory do not include a real link, how can a listing actually help your Google PageRank?

I though Google Page Rank did not give credit for redirect-type links?

Well, a Yahoo listing is still worth for Businesses @ 29$ an year. It does send in a lot of traffic and I see quite a lot of times when it is references by Google as a Back link. Probably Google identifies yahoo Links.

As of today Google recognizes six back links to me from various Yahoo directories (directort.yahoo.com and several regionals).

um, isn't that $299 for a yahoo directory listing? not $29...

anyway I would really like to know this, because people have said that a Yahoo directory listing will increase page rank, but it does not make sense.

Does anybody know for sure or have any references.

Thanks

clarification to my question:

Google might "recognize" the links, but do they actually contribute to PageRank when they are not direct links to your website?

Thanks

If you do a link search in Google the links will be found from the Yahoo directory.. If google finds the link then it will pass pagerank.

I agree with Mack. *All* the links from the Yahoo directory are counted and contributed to PageRank.
for example, just like it takes you to the site you click on, it will take Googlebot to the site it clicks on, which counts as a "link" from Yahoo directory, to the site.

Even though the link on Yahoo's directory may be a redirect, Google will still pass PageRank if the redirect script uses a 301 to redirect to you (and it may work with a 302 also). If you have the ability to check the headers returned by the redirect script, you can see if you receive a 301.

I know of one large branch in the directory that doesn't seem to be contributing pagerank. From what I had read, it used to in the past, but it has not in the last several months. Google doesn't show any back links for sites under it even though the sites and various directory sections under it have enough pagerank.

I've checked several pages and it does appear that Yahoo does seem to be increasing the PR for these sites. The question is, does Yahoo PR4 backlink increase the PageRank more than a regular PR4 backlink?

If not then £199 (For Yahoo.co.uk) is a lot of money for what is essentially a single PR4 backlink. Does anybody get any real traffic from the Yahoo directory or is it all via Yahoo search?

It is possibly a lot of money but you are guaranteed a review within 7 days. Also, unlike Yahoo.com, it is a one-off fee rather than a yearly recurring fee.

Not usually, but this can depend on your category. Most Yahoo referrals come from the Google results.
