OK to link?

I received a link request for 6 of "his" site. Is it safe to link back to all of "his" sites or will i get penaltized?

Agree with everything, but remember that in the "real" world good sites link to bad sites.

We look after some sites that I am sure link to bad sites and neighbhourhoods, but they also link to 1000's of good sites.

The web is built on chaos and so should your linking strategy. good/bad/clean/messy just do it on a massive scale.

Being penalized being linked to a bad neighbhourhood is a myth. More Google paranoia. There is no way Google will take the 1,000 sites that link to one garbage site out of their index. If they did, they would soon have a very limited index. Part of Google's strategy is to have as many possible sites indexed.

I am sure Yahoo and DMOZ have a few bad neighbhourhoods in their index. Why not knock them out?

At worst the link will not count.
