I run a non-commercial personal site. There are many directories out there for my type of site and I'm always requesting to get listed in them.

A week or so ago, I submitted my site to one of these directories, never heard back, didn't get listed. I figure it fell on someone's desk who didn't have time or didn't care.

Went back to the directory and noticed a dead link to a site similar to mine. I contacted them to inform them of the dead link and then asked if they would link to my site instead. I heard back instantly thanking me for the "heads up" and telling me the link had been updated!

You guessed it, they just replaced the dead URL with mine!

Now, I'm debating whether or not to contact them and correct the situation. I don't mind the wrong description with my link and it has generated some traffic. I guess I'm inclined to leave it alone!

Thoughts?

Kris,

You didn’t ask to be put in this position. A lot of people would not give it a second thought and accept the listing. You at least bothered to check to see the status of the link.

I see nothing wrong with leaving it alone.

This whole SE thing is really not based on fairness or doing the right thing. We just all travel along the same Internet highway. Some of us speed, some of us litter. Driving a little over the speed limit isn’t so bad, is it?
