Is it worth it to pay $20.00 per month for a listing in a directory of a portal site of on topic information for our industry and with a PR4 and places #3 in Google search for one of our major keywords?
I checked the backward links to that site and although there are not very many there are a few high PR sites of on topic information.
Thanks in advance for any advice and keep up the good work.

Yahoo - $24.92/month (if you looked at it that way).
What's the expected traffic for $20.00 - if you don't know might be worth a month to find out.
Just the "link" - you can get them for free all over the place.
Thus click-throughs will determine if the value is there.

Fathom is right, J_Mac. This is purely a traffic buy, as PR4 links are easy enough to get for free. You'll just have to compare the ROI of this buy vs. other traffic-generating opportunities. Of course, you may not get a good handle on the traffic potential until you try it out. In the meantime, try to get some detailed stats from the seller, i.e., the number of pageviews per month for that page. That will give you an idea of the potential.

That's my limit. Usually not higher than a PR4 for $20/year, but a few of them send me more referrals than Google, which is a heck of a lot. :)
