Also Does anyone know where I can read info about Home Page optimaztion. I do not want to overdue or underdo my home page with too much content or too little. Thank you

Can anyone please tell me the best way to get links

Build a site worth linking to.

That is one reason why it is said that content is king.

The only practical ( and correct ) way of getting links is to write to webmasters one by one as you have been doing.

You can raise your success rate by only writing to those that you know are looking to exchange links themselves and if you want to know how to do that..... there is another thread in this link development forum about "finding meeting places" It is rather long but gets interesting around message 62!

Put a Reciprocal Links Management System on your website and let people add their link. Approve it only when people add your link.

Press releases are a nice way to get links too.

Press releases? I'd be surprised if you get many off of those, although I suppose it couldn't hurt to mention the website if you're sending out releases anyway.

I'm afraid that the best way I've found to get links is to individually write webmasters and ask. It's very time-consuming. Like most everything else we talk about at Webmasterworld, whether it is worth it depends on what industry you're in, competition, margins, etc.

In very competitive, high margin industries where each visitor is worth big bucks, it is worth it to spend the time asking for links. In other industries where each visitor is less valuable or if your competitors have many, many more links than you, it may not be worth it.

I've been toying with the ideas of press releases more perhaps more accurately trying to find a nice way to make editors aware of my site in case someone ever wants to write an article on my type of site and mention it among others.

I know sites of the same concept of mine have received considerable press, but my site is new (less than one year old) and the concept isn't as fresh and exciting as it was in the late 90s.

So, just like everything else, I got involved too late!

HI Lillabeth,

From the charter [webmasterworld.com]

This forum covers topics around link building.

It does not cover the actual exchange of links. This is not a forum to trade or ask for links with people.

ok guys this is what bugs me

everybody is talking about building more links and linking to other websites that are in the same area of product as you are. how do you share links with websites that have pay for adult or gambling websites.

i mean no casino will link to you if you are other casino because they dont want potential customers going to other websites and them loosing all the money. i can see linking between countries and non commercial websites but i cant see anybody linking to so called commercial unless i am missing somethign with couple of websites i am working on.

also i am not saying that link exhange does not work but i would really like to know how does it work with let's say online gambling and online porn.

sorry if any speeling mistakes i am in school so dont have too much time to read over again :)

Hi, Nermin. It's often a bit more difficult to get links to a commercial site in a competitive business, since most competitors won't be interested in linking, even for a reciprocal or paid link.

You really have to look for other kinds of sites, preferably related to your topic. Industry and general directories, information sites, sites selling stuff that doesn't directly compete (gambling books?), etc. Get creative. Check your competitors to see who links to them for more ideas. Read the back content here, too, for creative link-hunting ideas.

I've found the best way to build links is to check the b/w links of high PR sites that should give you a load of sites to contact, the same applies to adult sites, although finding high PR adult sites is like looking for a needle in a haystack

are there folks besides webmasters to contact about link recip? we're likely to be approaching commercial/consumer review sites, at least at first, and it seems like there may be more receptive folks than overworked it staff
