Getting over the reciprocal links problem

Does anyone do this?

Does anyone build content site with outbound links, then ask the recipients of these links to link to other sites with money making potential. Hence getting over the reciprocal links issue.

I've done this more than once, with positive results: "I'll link to your Site A from my Site B if you link from your Site C to my Site D."

That can often result in more relevant links for both parties than just a straight link swap between A and B.

What about:

"I'll link to your Site A from my Site B if you link from your Site A to my Site C."

That works too, although it can be tricky to "sell" if you don't already have a relationship with the other webmaster. The most important thing is that there must be some logic from the other webmaster's point of view, serving the interests of their own visitors.

Another variation that works well is building a content site that people will link to because it's useful in their niche, then linking from that to some carefully selected pages of your own.

I've not tried that kind of link request myself, although I have received a few. In truth, I found the request a little off-putting. There was no substantive reason for my concern, as the site with my proposed link had OK PR. I guess what worried me was that the webmaster was building the PR of the site I was linking to while the site linked to me would get no attention or link requests of its own.

<added>Thinking about this, Doug, maybe something that would help is offering a very short explanation to the webmaster of why you want to do it the way you are proposing. Better topic fit, higher traffic link page, etc. A bit of reassurance might help erase concerns over a seemingly unconventional link scenario.</added>

Buckworks suggestion is something we do with a great deal of sucess.

Dougs,

We did a Hotscripts like website. We asked teh Authors that their listing was added to our website that they could see at an XYZ URL.

I linkback would be good for you so that your page at ourwebsite GETS popular and gets you more traffic.

I did a test run with 250 Authors. 68 people did that in less then a week.
