Multiple Domains One Shopping Cart

Is this cross linking?

Hi:
I'm getting ready to launch multiple domains with different content but I want to link to one shopping cart. All of the domains will be linked but it will be an open ended circle. I was wondering if this is would be considered a no no by Google for cross linking?

I guess it would be important to know if the shopping cart is part of one of your own domains. If so, then yes, all of the other sites wil be linking to the one.

But if you are using a third party cart, then as the customer adds to the cart, the link is going elsewhere.

But even if the first case is the case, as long as you have robust linking to sites outside your control, both in and outbound, I don't see any cause for concern.

Hi pshea:
My shopping cart is part of my home domain. I can see now that all the sites will be linked to the home domain. Thanks for the reply.

All of the domains will be linked but it will be an open ended circle.

If you do that then i see no reason of a penalty. HTH :)

Otnot, as the others have suggested sharing a cart on one domain doesn't sound like a problem. I'd avoid excessive crosslinking, though, e.g., every page on all the domains linking to the other domains.

Thanks for the help:
What I see happening by using one shopping cart is that I will be creating basically a wagon wheel shaped linking structure with all the domains pointing to the center. Then is it best to leave the outside ring open or can I go ahead and close the ring? I plan on having out side links pointing to all the spokes of the wheel so it shouldn't be considered a link farm.

I've just seen a site penalized by Yahoo for something similar. Top 5 at all the search engines, buried at Yahoo - both Google and Ink (both at au Yahoo).

Hi Marcia:
So what your saying is that Google penilized this site that is listed on Yahoo? I'm not trying to increase page rank by having multiply sites, but I am trying to go up in the results by being more site specific with my products. I have found that lately having too many KW on a single site that it seems to dilute the remaining KW in the results.

No Google didn't, not yet anyway. Yahoo appears to have penalized it. That's what it looks like. It's described here in msg #8, I posted in case anyone else runs into the same thing.

I find it very interesting that Yahoo is begining to penilize on it's own. It might be a sign of the big switch to INK. What your talking about isn't what I will be doing. My green widget site will be orginal content and my blue widget sight will also be ect. Sure I will have links to each site but not every page of every site and I will have outside links coming in and out going as well.

Interesting discovery, Marcia. The penalized site in the referenced thread sounds a bit different than Otnot's situation, but it's probably way too soon to tell what the risk factors are if Yahoo is developing their own penalty filters. Like we didn't have enough to keep us awake... :)
