It appears that the majority is linking for PR. I was just wondering about this because of the number of request that are coming in. Thanks all for your replies.

Signmaker, I'd guess that 3/4 or more of the link requests I get are PR-driven. They are often from off-topic sites and rarely make any kind of case for the relevance of our site to their visitors or vice-versa. Quite a few actually refer to "search engine rankings" and the like as a good reason for us to exchange links.

The thread that Shak links to has some good discussion about why traffic is as good or better a reason to pursue links.

My experience is that the world at large tends to lag what members here are doing. We were building links before that was in vogue... now, the world at large has discovered PR just as its relevance may be starting a decline.
