What about setting Meta data dynamically?

I have a huge dynamic website, each product in the database have its own keywords & description.
I am setting Meta data for each product's page by getting its keywords & description programmatically (dynamically) from the database.
What do you think guys, is it a good way

If you generate the right keywords and description I don't see anything wrong here. Both should be page specific and that's what you seem to do.

Yep, it sure is. I assume you're doing the same for the page titles as well?

I do this as well and it has been working out fine for me. Everything is pulled dynamically from the text to the title to the meta tags...it is viewed as static, no problems.

I do this is well, its entirely OK. What isnt OK, or just doesnt work, is when i got all my related keywords from Overture and put them into a database and then put them in randomly in the meta tags. just doest worjk

We generate auto tags for all pages then I go in and tweak the top level nav or other specific pages I want further optimized.

Can someone please explain in a bit more detail how they generate their decription, keyword and title tags directly from the text on their pages. Im currently getting a database site in PHP built and want to be able to go to the guy whos building it ... and say this is exactly what I want.

For majority of my product pages I know what field/(s) I will be using for my <title> tags but not sure where get description, keywords from.

eg. Best forum on web: Webmasters - webmasterworld.com

Am I also write in assuming some of you generate the tags and then modify on a page by page basis for the most important pages.

Personally, I only use dynamic title & description meta tags; keywords are a waste of time in my opinion. Works great for specific products, especially when you use the "ProductTitle" for anchor text to link to your 'product' detail pages. Great for the users, great for search engines.

Because I nixed the keyword tags 6 months ago and things have never been better on Google, Yahoo, and MSN.

he's talking about the keyword TAG, not keywords.
