Popup window for small image gallery

So all I want is to display a small image gallery popup (like 2-3 images) on a product page when somebody clicks on the image of the product.

The problem is that I have a single code that represents the images (<$MTPictureSmall1$> <$MTPictureSmall2$> .. etc)

So is there a way to create a popup from that single individual page that would say "when clicked, open a popup with this html code inside"?

I would check out slimbox ... it's lightweight, easy to install and I've had great luck with it.
