form validator / auto-reply

Can someone please direct me in the right direction...I want to create a simple form, but I want some items of the form *required*. I also want a "thank you, we will be in touch..." auto-reply when the form is submitted. I am not sure how to do this...Thanks.

To make a field "required" means you must test if the value entered or not. If not, return false and do not allow your form to send data. At the same time it is useful to validate the value entered too (for example, "Your name" field must contain only letters, no digits or other characters).
Your can not create auto-reply feature by means of javascript only. If you need help, give more details by sticky, please.
