I scold myself. Is my procedure of creating a .dwt file using copy and paste from an existing one wrong below, or I have to launch then Save as a new file name?

After copy and paste an existing file "aaa.dwt" within Template folder in Site panel (I did not launch the aaa.dwt file then use "Save as" to create a new bbb.dwt file), I continue to rename the duplicated
"copy [1] of aaa.dwt" file as "bbb.dwt".

I did not click the Refresh icon immediately after the renaming and continue to do editing in bbb.dwt then save. When I go to Asset panel, the "copy [1] of aaa" is there and I click it follow by Dustbin icon. It fails to be deleted and prompts a msg that the file cannot be found.

I launch aaa.dwt and click Save as "copy [1] of aaa.dwt" to create a same name to match with the Asset panel's "copy [1] of aaa" and update it when prompted. Go to Asset panel again to click the item follow by Dustbin icon, it appears deletable. But after go to Site panel to confirm the deletion ("copy [1] of aaa.dwt" is really disppeared from Site panel) then go back to Asset panel, the same "copy [1] of aaa" is still there although it behaves deletable earlier. Click it again follow by Dustbin icon and the earlier error msg of File cannot be found prompts again, till no avail.

Each time I try to delete it encounter a fatal error msg and DW shut down.

Pls help, how to delete the "copy [1] of aaa" in Asset panel when it has no associated source file now?

Redefine your site. DW templates & librabry items can become buggy when used thru assets. When you have done this close dreamweaver and relaunch it, then to be absolutely sure recreate your site cache. This should remove the confused file from your assets panel.

In future when you are copying templates I'd be sure to have no other windows open that link to the template being modified/copied - can lead to crashes.

I'm sorry for not able to understand exactly "Redefine your site" and how to "recreate site cache". Would you kindly describe the steps to follow.

Thanks

In 'site' view:

Site > Recreate site cache (note: this function is not available with contribute switched on)

and if that did not work:

Site > edit sites > remove > 'your site'
Site > edit sites > add > 'your site' (then re-define your remote and local info)

This will create you site afresh.
