Hi , New to this forum but looking forward to the help i desperatly need. I just did a full install of FP 2003 after deleting FP2002. Besite all the hassle of getting use to the new outlay and settings i have a problem I can not get rid of. I have re-installed and tried other stuff but to now avail. Frontpage when editing my index page freezes when I try to save after the editing. Besite this, my link bars only show the bars but no link descriptions (have a look [snip]). I am sure the FP extensions are operating but maybe I have to re-install them? Any suggestions as to how fixing the freezing bit would be tremendeous.

Try to go to Tools - Repair. Make sure you have the patches applied from MS for FP.

72 errors in the html of that page. Some of them are pretty severe. I tried opening your home page in my FP and it caused my system to crash hard. A couple of blue sreens of death and wham, down she went.

I don't know if you've looked at your site in anything other than IE but I'm going to assume based on the errors and what just occurred that your site is invisible to many, or parts of it anyway. All of those neat little IE specific javascript effects are really taking their toll on your page.

There is also a JavaScript error on the home page. That is probably where the problem is. Stuff like this may cause issues too...

<html xmlns:v="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" xmlns:o="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"" xmlns:(null)0="http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40">

Yikes! Those FP Hover elements are not recommended. They typically only display in IE. They also cause a severe performance hit on your pages. I'd like to meet the genius who decided to add that feature to FP! ;)

P.S. FP Extensions are at the server level. Unless of course you have your system set up to act as a server. You would not install FP extensions on your local system.

Also, make sure your host has the FrontPage 2003 Extensions installed. If they don't, parts of your web may not function.

It seems you copied things from Word? This is a mistake that a lot of people make. You just cannot copy from word. It adds so much bloated code.

Thanks all, I ended up with reinstalling XP. There was to much junk on it anyway. and Yes I did copy from word as I sometimes use word to get a better layout to se my text. I did not know it was causing issues in FP. Thanks for the help and I am sure i will come back with more questions as I go along learning how to build better websites.

Greetings from OZ

Hi Back again! I am re-designing my website in 2003 and would like your opinion about using interactive buttons in FP 2003. You mentioned before that using link bars was not a good option so wonder is this is ok or have you got any other ideas of how to set op navigation to othe pages?

The java -type buttons are really not any good to use. Some of the link bars that FP creates work with the FP extensions & sometimes can become corrupted.

Here's a good start...

FrontPage Includes [webmasterworld.com]
Tutorial for Building FP Included Content

You will definitely want to get acquainted with the FP Include feature.

Good luck!
