Dreamweaver comments

A bad thing?

There's a small community of people muttering that excessive comments are a bad thing and Search Engines such as Google might (might, not do!) frown upon what could be considered keyword stuffing in comments.

My templates generate 26 comments in an HTML file, in respect of all the editable regions.

Is there a concensus on whether that's OK, or whether I should copy the files to a separate hard disk folder and rip the comments asunder before uploading?

Do tell!

I'm pretty sure comments are ignored.

If not, they should be ;)

My oldest site is based on templates and horrible code, and it's still cranking in #1 or #2 spots - so no, I'd say there was no negative effect for DW template code.

I would change it into decent xhtml and php includes if I weren't worried about being cast into outer darkness...
