Frontpage salesman unaware of CSS shocker

I didn't think they were this far behind...

At a business start-up conference yesterday, I met a friend who had been attending a presentation showcasing Frontpage at the Microsoft stand.

Though I have never used Frontpage, it was my friend's all brief first introduction to writing webpages back in the summer, before I gave him a few lessons on handcoding, validation and the time-saving and design benefits of using CSS. He is now a convert to the principles of separating style from structure and writing valid code.

So he asked the MS representative at the end of the presentation: "Why don't you have a (better) CSS interface on Frontpage?"

Apparently the representative was visibly embarrassed as he asked in response: "I'm sorry what do you mean? What is CSS?" - he'd obviously never heard of CSS in his life.

Uggg ..... well I can feel that one from both sides ... I have tried to buy from people who dont know what they are selling and am ashamed to say that I also sold things I did not know about (not for very long it has to be said :-)

Gotta feel sorry for the rep a little, he was probably selling windows CE yesterday.

It's not a shocker. I'm finding that it's more and more the case that sales people know less and less about the product they are selling.

Everybody in the world who knows nothing about SEO has called me at one time or the other to sell me SEO services.
