Using a DW Template Multiple Times

Hi all

Probably a very easy question...

I've made a generic templated site using DW MX called Master Template. Basically there's loads of html pages, driven by the master.dwt, and these html files have a big empty holding layer thats editable, but all the rest like headers and menu etc is locked down.

I now want to re-use that site multiple times for diferent clients, just changing the editable sections as necessary. I still need to be able to change the master.dwt to add logos etc for each client, and have that replicated to the html files.

Given that there's so many posts regarding quirks and problems with templates, I thought I'd ask the right way to approach this now rather than getting into problems later.

Is it simply a case of making a copy of the Master Template folder, renaming it to the clients name, and then changing the site properties to ftp the files to the correct webspace? Does this break the links between the template and html files?

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Cheers

Dave

The way you describe may cause problems - it may not. Since I moved to MX there has been far fewer issues with the template feature.

I think the best way to recreate your site using the same template would be to copy the entire directory to a new folder (outside of your 'master' site). In DW define this as a new site. Then as you change the master template in the new site all the html docs will update without running the risk of file paths becoming broken.

Thanks. That's sort of what I had in mind, so I'll give it a go
