I've created a site on a network server here for my co-workers to create their webpages. I've activated the check in/out feature in the site definition, but when I go to check a file out I get an error box that says, "the file cannot be checked out. The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process".

I don't understand. The file isn't open in dreamweaver (or anywhere else).

any assistance would be appreciated. thanks.

I've had this problem as well - sadly I didn't find a solution. Usually it does sort itself out after a while.

If you check in a file or upload a file and immediately try to rename it or check it back out, you will get the FTP error message '550: The Process Cannot Access the File Because It Is Being Used by Another Process'. The only solution is to wait (sometimes up to one hour) and try to check out or rename the file again.

I had this problem, and found that disabling ZoneAlarm fixed it - now using Sygate for the Firewall and not getting any issues.
