I've been asked:
Will I be able to make modifications myself [to xhtml] using a program such as Adobe Golive which creates html pages?
While personally, I wouldn't let any WYSIWYG touch my code with a 10 foot pole, the question has been asked, and I need to find an answer.

Note: For those of you who wish to exalt and extole the virtues of WYSIWYG editors, please save it for another thread; I'd rather keep this one technical. Thank you.

I can't answer for xhtml authoritatively. GoLive works fine (if you want to call it that) with html (and php, I think, not positive about that - didn't actually try it with php because the person who wanted to use it - after we decided against Configure - wasn't going to be doing any php anyway....)

The problem I had with GoLive is the same one I had with Configure: won't validate if you make any "simple" mistakes with it, or if you try to do anything at all "esoteric". They're both fine with nothing but content changes. It wasn't so good if you needed to do anything very technical with formatting.

It was actually to my mind better than Configure for one reason in particular: WAY faster, especially on dial-up. The non-validation may be a non-starter for most folks who use either one of these programs. If so, either one will do what you need done (same caveat though: didn't try it with xhtml or php), just that GoLive will let you get done faster.

[We finally opted for neither. We're using a VERY simplified RCS, with a directory on the server to check changed pages into (from her end) so that I can "fix" anything that needs fixing before I upload. Works fine - and will continue to do so as long as it's only the two of us. Add more "fixers" and it will become problematic of course.]
