UltraDev - bought it, shelved it, taking it out of box for 1st time

I guess it's old stuff - can I upgrade? How did UltraDev evolve up to now?

I'm guessing about 2-3 years ago I spent a few bucks buying Macromedia's UltraDev - which at the time was touted for easing the development of database driven websites. Not that I knew anything then, or now, about coding ASP, etc.,

There comes a time to begin learning.

Question: Do I own a dead horse or is there any way for me to redeem some of the value of my investment in UltraDev? Is there an upgraded version? Am I eligible?

All forms of advice and guidance are appreciated.

FYI: I am looking for a tool that will ease the pain of me building a "for sale by owner" type of website, using ASP pages and MS SQL (shared server) as a backend. It's my understanding that I don't need a full blown version of MS SQL to create the actual database/tables I'll need to build such a site.

Is it also true that with the scaled back version of MS SQL server I will be able to connect with the shared server for the purpose of uploading the database and possibly fixing or upgrading database tables locally or on the server?

You can still use it, obviously, but the upgrade path is closed to you unless you have Version 4. Macromedia changed its upgrade policy with the MX series to just the two previous versions which are 4 and MX (by which point Ultradev was rolled into the main DW).

What you may be able to do (if you don't have version 4) is pick up a second-hand unused upgrade version of 4 and then use the upgrade path from there.

Sorry, can't help you on the ASP and MS SQL...
