Hi All,
Can you help?
I use FP2000, website is hosted on NT server.
I want to set up a secure folder that other workers can use like a drag and drop FTP type thing to store and share documents.
Can this be done?
Or should i be looking to host this elsewhere on another server?

Cheers

in a simple way, a directory on the webhosted space, that has no incoming links, hence to the rest of the world except people who know of the existence of the directory, it does not exist.

Above is simple, if your wanting to make sure that its not penetrable by most means then a password protected directory would suffice.

1. How much access do you have to the hosting server?

Hi Caine,
thanks for the quick response...

I have not much access to the server other than the standard frontpage2000 via http publishing. As it is held by a hosting company.

I take it from what you are saying
i could set up a folder www.mydomain.com/user/ and people could access with password.

But can they drag and drop like FTP, i'm try to set it up for people who are technicaly challenged.

Hello

;)

Well if you just have the FP access to the folders the answer is easy.

No, you can't...

You can't create a folder with this characteristics because it is a system property, it have to be set by the administrator if the system using the files explorer.

help!

I have got my host to set up a ftp file for me. [great :-)]

But i now realise that i need a ftp client for moving files because of the setup he uses.

I am trying to set up a small secure place where myself and a couple of others can share files.

Having looked at all the clients i realise that this will not work for these people - it's too complicated.

It has to be drag and drop. like the way some of those free hosting places work. You can just log on to ftp site and drag files out to your desk top or drop them back in.

I need something this simple.

Anybody have any ideas?

Hmmm

Well, ireally don't know a tool as simple as you need, but if you can use php (for example), you can set a very simple ftp solution using it's ftp capabilities.

If you do, you will have in your page things like a text filed where the local address of the file is and a button to search. I'll explain my self, a button that opens a tipical search files windows that you can use to look for the files you want, and once you have selected a file, it will be displayed in the text field, of course yo will have a button to start the ftp transaction too, but that's it

May be it is not what you are looking for, but i can't help you more this time... as far as i remember

Good luck
