SSL and Frontpage

Help needed please

I have a small site produced with FP2000 that collects data from a form and emails it to me.

As I want to add SSL encryption to the form data (so tha the address becomes [..)...] to encourage more people to fill out the confidential form, I looked at my hosts details for this service, but they suggest that their SSL solution will conflict with Frontpage extensions.

To quote from their FAQ..

"MICROSOFT FRONTPAGE USERS PLEASE NOTE
Unfortunately active components such as forms and guestbooks will not function under the secure URL due to a limitation of FrontPage extensions.

However there is no problem with CGI/iASP/PHP which will function as normal under the SSL URL. "

So my question is this - can I achieve my objective without changing the way that mny data is collected and mailed and if so how?

Many thanks in advance.

It sounds like you will have to either find or write a couple of mailer scripts for your forms. They aren't overly difficult and there are a bunch out there that can get you started.

Find out what language is available to you and take a look at hotscripts.com or come to any of the specific forums here for some guidance.

Thanks jatar_k. Does this mean that I have no choice but to change the way this operation is handled if I want to go for SSL, or might another host provide a different solution?

You would have to ask them but from the way that message reads it sounds like they have had many issues so are advising everyone.

It never hurts to ask though. Who knows, they may have some form processors to offer since it is a known problem. Some hosts do offer some basic scripts.

At least they offer PHP for FP users. Not all hosts do.

I have never seen a hosting company offer FrontPage extensions on a secure sever. You will have to use a script.
