Best price I've seen so far (from a major seller, not some Ebay auction for an academic version) is about US$850 ...anyone know if there is a better deal lurking out there somewhere? Sticky me if you have a link....thanks!

Yes there is if you're using one of the upgrade path's.
I'm currently in the process of picking up the 2004 version, should be around £399.00 / $678.00 USD. This is from Macromedia itself (UK).
