I am definately a beginner. I think that frontpage will cut and paste graphics just as easy as dreamweaver so I don't really know what the deal is. I have mainly used FP 2002. I use Adobe photoshop to make graphics. Fireworks doesn't seem up to par.

Other than graphics, and if you through out the shared borders and bad themes is there really a difference?
I learned to use both in school, I'm not finished up with dreamweaver, but I think the coolest thing about it is creating a link using the crosshair to point to a file, or it is more convenient to link to a bookmark on another page. I don't know much but is there something more significant that I'm missing?

Is one more stable? What if you were more worried about integrating a database with nested search results several layers deep? Or integrating a shopping cart? What about using a .net and sql server instead of Linux/unix and mysql; is there a different aspect there or no difference at all in the design tool?

Shadows Papa:

For information on FrontPage 2003 and a "RunAware" trial version, see:

[microsoft.com...]

As for pricing, figure about $90-100 for the version and $160-180 for first-time buyers, depending on where you get it and whether there are any rebates. The product is available now.

(FP used to be included in a premium version of Office, but I believe it's strictly a standalone application in the 2003 editions of FP and Office.)

I haven't seen an app from MS that doesn't try to DO things for me or THINK for me.

Soon as they come out with something that will do what I command and not ask me if I would "like some fries with that" I'll be happy to use it.

/things have changed on 03. There is layer positioning, it makes css pretty simple. spell check is usually a good feature. The only weird thing about would you like fries with that is that you can tell it to stop. Like when making a new page, a column on the right will open up with options, you can choose not to show it any more, same with the office assistant. fp 03 is a huge improvement.

It would be handy to have it since a lot of people use it and I work on some stuff where people are wanting to use FP.

When I've had it before, as soon as I opened a valid html file, FP would rewrite it w/ all the MS tags and stuff. I'd have to run it back through DW to strip all those extra tags.

Is FP03 good with php? That's what I use the most now...

I see you are in Nola - I'm in Covington, BTW.

I don't know if this makes a difference to anyone looking at FP vs DW, but we switched to DW because many spam filters are now using the forced M$ meta tag as a reason to filter.

We like DW much better but we wouldn't have switched until our opt in emails started getting filtered due to the tag. Granted, we could have gone in and removed the tag before we mailed but we figured using software that didn't force code in was a safer option.

About php, i could not tell you.
About MS code, it seems that some of the http equiv dissapeared if you use the code sniplets, you have much more control over it anyway. FP usually wanted to put the meta keywords before the description, know you can do it manually easy by pressing control+enter if you put a ¦ and ¦ at the beginning and end of the lines it will preselect that peice of code so you can delete it easier.

In Metairie I went to a Web design company and they had problems and would not design with frontpage as well as host on a microsoft server. Flexibility is always a +. Give the customer what they want!if you can.
