Hi

Just started using DW 3 - it's all working fine on my machine running windows 98 - until I try to upload my site.

It connects to the server fine, but after uploading a few files it hangs - it seems to be OK if I just upload an individual file, the problem seems to be if I upload a directory containing numerous files.

I'm using my trusty old WSFTP at the moment, until I sort the problem - I don't know if that will cause any other issues

Anyway - I'll hit the manual again - just wondering if anyone had any ideas - I'm new to DW - so it's probably a really obvious thing!

FTP fixes were regular added to the versions and updates since DW3 - I always used a standalone FTP client - any of them are better than DW's builtin FTP.

Thanks for the pointer

I've been uploading with WSFTP for years, so it's no problem to carry on doing that - just wondering if this causes any issues within DW, with the local site and remote site maybe not being synchronized.

Out of interest - is the current version of DW finally bug free when uploading?

It seems strange to me that I've been hearing people for years saying how wonderful DW is - but it can't do something as basic as this!

I use Dreamweaver MX to FTP files from an XP machine to a Linux server on the same network, and I've never had any problems.

I've occasionally used it to FTP to a server via the internet, and again it seems OK, but I generally prefer to use a dedicated FTP program for this - it gives you more control

I always had problem with DW3, and a friend using a Mac found it OK.
CuteFTP PRO does it for me. you can sync folders with it.

Thanks for the advice ...

I'm still uploading with WSFTP - it's working OK, but I can't understand why I am seeing a directory named _vti_cnf created in all my sub directories. This contains a copy of all the files in that directory

What is this all about?

I can't see anything in the Dreamweaver help - so I assume it's a WSFTP thing - but this never appeared when I uploaded pages created with my trusty old Adobe PageMill!

Am I supposed to upload these too?

I am guessing it is something to do with having the local site and remote site synchronized - that's another thing - do they HAVE to be synchronized?

Oops ...

Just figured out it is a Frontpage thing!

I was messing with FP before I settled on DW - I'll just delete the pesky things!

I use Macs and when I used to use DW 3 it would hang during FTP of large volumes.

I have not experianced this with DW MX which I started using the day it came out. What ever was wrong with DW 3 they seemed to have fixed between 3 and MX. Can't wait to see DW MX 2004.
