Trouble uploading in dreamweaver

Hi Everyone,
I've been using Dreamweaver 4 for the last year or so to design and maintain my website. I admit though, that I only barely know the basics and am quite dense in the area of web design- so bear with me please :o)

That being said... I've been trying to make changes to some of the text on my site as well as add a new page with text and pictures. The problem is I can not get them to upload to my site. I go to the "site files" area, and I can connect (so no problem there), and all of my new files and the new page are showing up on the remote site, but when I go to the web they are not there. My webhosting plan still allows much more server space then I am using, so it's not a matter of not enough space. I've also done the "recreate site cache", but that hasn't worked either.

I'm not really sure what else to try, or what the problem could be. Any ideas? Please :o)

Welcome to WebMasterWorld Becca

Not sure if this is your problem, but it could be.

The way some hosts are set up, you cannot simply use the blue arrow (Put Files), you have to actually highlight the files you want transferred and them move them manually into the folder on the host side (left pane).

When you look at the remote site do you see a folder set up like this?

[]D:/Inetpub/wwwroot/somename
+...[]www

If you do, you have to open up the folder "www" and place your files in there, this folder is the root of your site. If you simply click the blue arrow it will not work.

Good luck.

Another thing,

When you go to "Define Sites" and click on Edit > Remote Info, do you have an IP address on the FTP host? If you do, try using ftp.yoursite.com or www.yoursite.com.

Thank you for the quick response and welcome... it's very much appreciated.

Unfortunatly that is not the problem :o(. I should mention that I've had no troubles in the past uploading files, it's just in the last couple of days that this problem has come up (although I haven't tried to upload anything for at least 3-4 weeks, so it might be longer).

Thank you! I tried the opposite of this, and it worked. I had ftp.mysite.com and I switched it to www.mysite.com.

Thanks again.

Any idea why ftp.mysite always worked before and just now changed?

Your hosting company must have changed something, I am not familiar with server set-ups, so I don't know why "ftp" worked before and now "www" works instead of it.

I tried using DW for ftp. It works, but the only problem is that it doesn't tell you exactly what's happening. I would recommend WS_FTP, not because it's any better at transfering files, but because it will let you know exactly what the problem is if there is a problem.

Also, make sure that you're moving files into public_html folder if that's the way the server is setup.
