After reading many discussions here I get the impression that no one else is using a text editor designed specifically for coding such as the program I use 'HTML Kit'

Just curious. I tried a couple WYSIWYG editors but didn't like them. I love HTML Kit though. I guess because it falls somewhere in the middle.

Glad to know there are other HTMLKit usres here. Mckcd is right, we seem to keep a low profile on this forum.

Of those who use it, how would you rate your knowledge of the program? There seems to be a lot to it, but it can be kind of hard to figure out due to the lack of formal documentation.

And how many users subscribe to the chami newsgroups?

I use HTMK-Kit, I tend to keep quite about it because some WYSIWYG guys can get a bit strident. Hand-coding is just something you have to come to in your own good time.

I hope there's something just as good on linux for when I finally make the jump.

A chami newsgroup is news to me.

Some of the plug-ins are easier to understand than others.

htmlkit is the easiest way I know to ferret out coding errors and correct them in one single window. It's a timesaver.

htmlkit is great for those jobs where you have to take someone else's frankenstein web site and make it look like a proper web site.

This is exactly what I am using HTML-kit for. Except that those frankenstein web sites are usually mine...

The newsgroup is hosted at the chami site. As far as I know it's not avaialble anywhere else.

Been using HTML-kit for 2 months now, and after I figured it out, I don't think I'd use anything else.

The newsgroups at chamis.com are great; there are several of them, btw

I use Microsoft Visual InterDev 6.0 to edit my files. I always hand code my web pages so I haven't really tried their Web Tools. I heard from others that it's pretty cool though.

After reading the above inputs, I think I might give HTML Kit a try as well. ;)

I've tried HTML Kit, but I still prefer 1stPage2000.

Although it's a bit outdated, 1stPage2000 is an excellent web-coder, but based upon the recent updating of the website, it appears there may be a new 1stPage coming! :)

1stPage is a FREEWARE editor with Real-Time preview, (better than WYSIWYG), and it supports most of the newer web technoligies (it was ahead of it's time). Lots of bundled goodies!

Although it appears you can download 1stPage from Evrsoft.com, I haven't found the link to be valid the last few times I've tried it. You may download it here: [earlyretiremint.com...]

Welcome 5TillFree

I don't think your link will last long as it's against the TOS so you might wanna consider zapping it before the Mods come around and give ya a good slappin ;¬)

I tried 1stPage some years ago, shame they let it die but I think one of the team are building another editor at the moment which looks a bit dreamweavery.

Thanks Whippinpost for the welcome AND the warning. I honestly didn't see anywhere in the TOU ( [webmasterworld.com...] ) that download links were prohibited.

In fact item #10 states "A link to the content is acceptable and appropriate."

Anyway, since you said so, I tried to edit it, but I can't (no edit option though I'm obviously logged in! Ideas?) I suppose if they don't approve they will remove.

In regards to "the other 1stPage", HTML Builder XP, it's a good coder but it has a nagbar and I hate nagware.

A NEW 1stPage IS coming! -- It just may be awhile though :(

TC

PS- mckcd, Have you tried PSPad? It's a GREAT text/html/Hex editor! (Should be #1 link in Google search)

I use HTML Kit from time to time to. I also like Selida, which has a pretty useful feature for inserting keyword meta tags. Most of my coding is done in conText though, I love that one.
