Templates, Editing Meta Tags in Dreamweaver for SEO

Templates, Meta Tags, Dreamweaver, CS3, SEO, Editable Region

I have Dreamweaver CS3, and I'm taking over a website from someone else that I am doing for SEO. Rather than having to deal with updating links for 20 pages, I decided that a template would be better.

Here's the problem. The only things templates allow me to edit (other than regions) is the title tag. I can't manipulate the individual header meta tags, which will cause a major problem. How can I get Dreamweaver to recognize that editable regions don't necessarily have to be in the body of the page?

I have had a similar problem before... what I ended up doing was I added those additional meta fields I need within the

<!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="doctitle" -->
<title>title here</title>
<!-- InstanceEndEditable -->

So that it was

<!-- InstanceBeginEditable name="doctitle" -->
<title>title here</title>
<meta name="keywords" content="what ever">
<!-- InstanceEndEditable -->

I think if you changed that in the template it will apply that field to all those pages that you would then be able to update on a page by page basis.

I understand. I tried to do that myself, but the template tends to lock up everytime I attempt to put the code in as an "Instance"

When I envelope the title and meta tags in the Template tags, then on every page that is based on the template, everything but the title tag appears.

I did somehting similiar to what you said.

Instead of enveloping them all in the same "doctitle" tag, I put them in their own separate tags, so it has worked out.

For some reason, when you try to apply "editable region" to the metas, it moves it below the code for the javascript buttons.
