Dreamweaver Template Problems

Editable regions locked in code view

So, on Friday before work I decided to convert some of my work to templates, as there were certain aspects of our website that I came to realize would recur throughout the site. Now on Monday, I come in to change the code of an area that is clearly "Editable" and I find myself unable to do so... at least in code view. In Design view everything is fine. I can change anything within the editable region... as long as I do so from design view.

While this doesn't make my work impossible, it definitely makes it harder, and as I generally do everything from code it's frustrating for me (and perhaps more so for my co-workers who occasionally work on some of these pages).

So my question is.... am I doing something wrong, or is this simply poor design on Macromedia's part, or does God just hate me?

(if anyone's especially concerned that I've not done my editable regions properly, I can easily post code)

Much thanks,
~Kynes

I've seen funnies like this from time to time.

Not sure if it is the smae reasons, but I managed to fix it by taking the code into another html editor and fixing it there.

Checking the coding against a known working example is probably a good idea too.

I too have had frustrations similar to this using DW templates. A quick fix is to "detach" the template from the current page, make the changes and reattch the template afterwards.

Go to the MODIFY drop-down menu from the affected page's window and select the "Templates" option and then select the "Detach from Template" command from the secondary drop-down menu.

Make your changes to the page or code and then repeat the directions above except select the "Apply Template to Page" command.

This has worked for me in the past and should work for you. It's simple and a realatively easy to remember work-around too.

For what it's worth, I've had sort of a reverse problem in making changes to the BODY tag attributes in the Template itself. I can't make the changes apply in the Design View, but can in the Code View. Go figure.

I got so fed up with dreamweaver's nested templates and it's integration with Fireworks, I started learning GoLive.

So far I find GoLive hard to use, but I'm thinking in the long run (once i figure it out) it'll be easier.

What do others think?

You couldn't pay me enough to stop using Dreamweaver, LOL. I don't seem to have any problems doing editing, and my main site has many tempates and 1000 pages. Maybe I am just the lucky one ;)

Maybe check the Macromedia site to see if there are any patches you can download to fix known bugs. And I believe they have a support feature where you can complain about bugs you encounter.
