fp2000 - navigation bar changes won't save

I'm building a site using FP2000.

I have shared borders and navigation bars set up, but when I change the navigation bar properties, save the changes and then go back and open the pages, they have not been saved.

I am building the site on my hard drive first, and then expect to publish it to the server when I'm finished.

This is my first experience with FP and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Hoping someone here can help.

thanks!

Is it a universal nav bar for the site - is it a Frames based site?

It is not a frames-based site. I'm only using shared borders.

A universal nav bar? I don't think so (I'm still new at this). It is located on the left side and it changes on each page.

thank you for helping me.

Go to View > Navigation and set up your site structure. All your pages need to be there to use the nav bars. If you need help press F1.

I'd suggest creating the navigation bar manually instead of letting FrontPage do it. This will let you design the navigation scheme for the user (and to promote the pages or sections that you want to promote) instead of having it dictated by FrontPage. I'm pretty sure that it will also result in much smaller page sizes, because FrontPage won't be generating a lot of complicated code.

Here's how I'd do it:

1) For your navigation bar, create an include file, which is simply a page with your navigation menu.

2) Use the FrontPage 2000 Insert Web Component / Included Content / Page command to insert the navigation page (navigation.htm or whatever you've chosen to call it) into the shared border.

This method makes it very easy to edit or replace your navigation bar. You can repeat the procedure for all of your page borders. To see how the method works for me, visit the site in my profile.
