I've three sites built using FP 2000 all have a search page using the built in facility.

I'd like to be able to have a small simple search box on the top shared border of every page that opens up a new page for the results. All I've managed so far is to get the results expanding the border to some stupid size with the rest of the page underneath. Is this possible with FP?

I guess not many people use the FP search function. I gave up on it many years ago.

A free alternative you might want to look into if your site has less than 500 pages is Atomz. You can use an Include Page to add their code to the area you want in your navigation. Results will open in a new page, and you can completely customize the look of that page.

IMO, Atomz is definitely the way to go. They say they can only search 500 pages, but I all I did was ask nicely, and they bumped me up to 1000, free of charge still. They are very powerful, and like bill said, you can completly customize your results page.

I had a Master.com search box on my site for quite a while. It didn't cost anything, and Master.com spidered my pages each week (up to a maximum of 2,000 pages, as I recall).

I recently changed to Google's free search tool. With a bit of code-tweaking (which isn't forbidden by Google's TOS), I got a simple, clean search box that I could integrate into my navigation column.

i'm not sure if google's free tool does this, but Atomz sends you an email report every week in which they tell you your most popular searches, by term. very handy. you find out what your customers/users are looking for.

Thanks for all the replies folks, I guess the answer to my original question is no.

I'll take a look at Atomz, though one site is currently at 492 pages and climbing fairly quickly, the email of search terms sounds particularly useful.

Update. I went to Atomz and emailed a question about my 492 page site;

"Therefore, I have decided to upgrade the capacity of your Atomz Express Search account from 500 pages to 1000 pages. This is a one-time, individual-case upgrade."

Also - "Pricing for Atomz Search starts at USD$10,000 per year".

I'll stick with the free upgrade for now! thanks again.
