FrontPage 2002 Hit Counter...

...being prepetually suck on 1

My company does hosting, and we have a client who pretty much resells our hosting, and does web design. FrontPage is used, and every hit counter on every page that's attempted stays stuck on 1. The code is like so -

Anyone can shed some light on why that would be stuck on one? Our problem, her problem, what? Any illumination on the subject will be much appreciated.

Why dont you get your host to do the stats, its usually very cheap...or you could get a free stats program.

One issue that usually causes this is the FrontPage Extensions. I'll assume that you have the latest extensions installed on the hosting servers where those problems are occurring.

I believe you should also check and make sure that FP extensions are enabled for those hosted sites.

I've also read some comments that the site needs to be published through FP for the hit counters to function properly. I've been using FP for 7 years and have never used the hit counter component so cannot give you any definitive answers. I would definitely look at the extensions first, that is where most issues arise.

We do the stats, just she wants counters and her clients want counters, so. Taking a look to make sure all the extensions are uptodate now.

Update - found the answer. Under the _private directory wherever the site is on the server, you need to set permissions for IUSER_<machine> to be allowed to write to those files, such as default.htm.cnt, or whatever page has the counter on it, and this problem is solved.

I just dropped a hit counter into a page to do some testing. When you insert the hit counter component, you get a hit counter properties dialog. There are two checkboxes at the bottom, one of them reads...

Reset counter to...

And then gives you the ability to enter a number to reset the counter.

I compared my code to the code you have posted above and the code you posted has the property checked to reset hit counter to 1000. The default number to reset to is "0".

The users need to configure their hit counter properties for it to function properly.

The only time the user would have this box checked is if they were resetting the counter for some reason. Hit counters leave too much room for adjustment! ;)

Its been a long time but, if I remember right, I had to delete it from the site and then reinsert. I don't recommend them.
