_vti_cnf folders

where did they come from?

Hi!

Was wondering something... There's several _vti_cnf folders on the server, and I'm not sure where they came from...

I think it's got something to do with the FTP. Is it ok to delete these folders?

They are made by Frontpage when you create websites using the program.

If you delete the files then you will have problems editing the website with frontpage.

Those are Frontpage config files. They are created by FrontPage and keep track of changes made locally. When you "publish" the site, only the changes are ftp'ed.

If you don't use Frontpage, and have been modifying your pages directly in the directories they're supposed to belong in*, you can remove these directories.

As Mickey$oft always recommends, do a full backup of your site before deleting them, incase some pages are still being processed by frontpage.

* Frontpage creates a big tree of folders on your hard drive and your webserver.
