Front Page, checking links

some relative links reported broken

My brother downloaded our site and ran it through Front Page to look for broken links. The site was not built with Front Page. The site is about 2,500 pages.

FP showed about 27,000 links.

Most, if not all, internal links are relative, ie:

../../directoy/pagename.htm

For some reason FP reprted 9,000 of these links as broken.

Needless to say I didn't go to the live site and try all 9,000 links. But a few showed up hundreds of times, and I did try some of those on the live site.

They all worked just fine.

Any ideas why these links are showing up as broken in the FP link check list? (I don't use FP so I may have that function name wrong)

I don't know why FP thinks the good links are broken if all of the pages were successfully downloaded - sounds like some kind of weird path thing, offhand.

I'd suggest checking the links live on the site using Xenu or some similar tool. No downloading required.

I also found the FP reporting tool reports mouseovers links as being broken too.
