Need an editor for my better half

My wife wants an HTML editor in which to work on her personal site. She uses Win95 on a p233, so it needs to be light-weight. She wants WYSIWYG, which I just don't do, and I want to reccomend something that will both be easy to use and will produce code I won't be ashamed to have on my servers. I know she's not going to get professional quality work without just making me do it for her, but I don't know what's good. Any reccomendations? Remember, she has no aspirations to professional web design, she just wants to make a web site about her new carpet python.

Hello Dingman,

Why not find a early copy of Dreamweaver (3 or 4)? I know you mentioned that she would prefer WYSIWYG and doesn't want to become a professional, so I believe this to be the most simple solution to your question. My better half uses Dreamweaver MX and over the course of 2 or so days, she has more than got the hang of everything needed to produce a very impressive looking Website.

dingman, when I first started I learned HTML because it's actually much simpler and quicker than learning the ins and outs of using most software. But for certain pages (like maybe recipes or poetry on a personal site) I'd do quickies using Front Page Express and it worked just fine.

I recently did a little bit of optimization work on a site that the gal did with FP Express last year. It looks fine, not a problem with it. And someone I know has been making her living off a site for several years that she uses Netscape Composer for, with very good rankings, too.

You'd never know those sites used WYSIWYG editors that come free with browsers. The less features they have the easier they are to learn and use.

Forgive me, but where does one get an early copy of Dreamweaver, and how much does it cost? MX is at least an order of magnitude more expensive than we're able to spend until either my contracting takes off or I get a 'real' job. (Half-time, under-paid, sometimes-but-not-always in my field doesn't count as real.)

Apparently she had a bad experience with Netscape Composer a few years ago and won't touch it again. She's also extending that to Mozilla's composer, and says she might try FP Express. Oddly enough, despite the insistence on WYSIWYG when she was giving me requirements, she's now happily typing away in Arahnophillia 4, which she downloaded and installed while I was asking for ideas.

Actually the newest version of Namo Webeditor still works in Win95. It's an excellent WYSIWYG editor. And easy to learn. Looks very much like FP. And cheap too. And with a 45 days full trial version.
