Dreamweaver 8 pulling images from web

I am just trying Dreamweaver 8 and am really annoyed by something I can't solve.

In MX2004, I always just got the gray box when calling images with the absolute url from a live website. I don't want to increase hits, bandwith, etc on the real website while working.

After starting DW 8 however, it is pulling all images from the web all the time causing slower loading of pages, traffic on server, etc. Does anyone know how the turn this off or have it work like in MX 2004? (other than blocking internet access through my firewall to DW8) I've been pulling what little hair I have left out over the past hour over this.
