When you create a new document in Dreamweaver, there is the option to make the document XHTML-compliant. Should this be checked for maximum compatibility/future-proofing the website? Thanks.

If nothing else, it finds all the open tags etc and closes them, making it easier to debug.

But will making the document XHTML-compliant have any drawbacks, or is it simply a win-win situation?

Well, it appears that the web, including the newer editors coming out (like the FrontPage replacement) are all going to XHTML, I cannot see any downsides.
