Dreamweaver to Frontpage Express

Customer wants to use Frontpage Express to edit a Dreamweaver built page.

My question is as follows: I have a client who would really like to have his site redone. He built his own site in Frontpage Express. He wants to have me professionally redesign it but wants to not have to rely on me for updates after the fact. He wants to use his frontpage express to edit his site after I'm done with it. Will he have any problems making edits to the page or will he be fine? Is there a specific way i'd have to build for him to be able make the changes? Any input would be great.

I think you need to talk him out of this and come up with some way to allow him to edit/maintain his site other than by using FrontPage Express.

It was always a terrible piece of work, and as far as I know (I may well be wrong) hasn't been changed in years. If it was FrontPage he would be fine, but Express is a whole other story.

Thanks for the reply on this one. The customer would be o.k. with buying and using a copy of Dreamweaver but I'm sure as hell not about to train him how to use it. Any suggestions in this situation.

He doesn't need to know dreamweaver to use contribute ...

Simply set up contribute to your dreamweaver templates and the design will keep it's layout, and allow him to edit the regions to his hearts content ...

It is simple to use and easy to pick up ..

+ it only costs $79 compared to $399 for dreamweaver ...

Frontpage, or Frontpage Express.. totally different programs...

FP Express was a one time freebie given out with IE 5(?) and has been obsolete for years.

Definitely go with Macromedia Contribute 3 for this purpose. It's very easy to use and my users love it. They don't bug me for updates and they don't hose the design. To prevent users from hurting themselves, you can even limit them to a specific style sheet and turn off the ability to apply fonts, font-sizes, bold, italic, underline, etc.
