No foreign characters allowed in notepad or macromedia?

I need to be able to paste foreign language text into a page. I am able to do this on my blogs, however, when I need to do this via dreamweaver, fireworks or notepad, there's no way as it don't work.
what do I need to do to be able to edit in foreign characers without purchasing a foreign version?

Which language are you trying to "paste" in? All my macromedia apps are english language versions and they have no problem accepting french language ( where I am that would be the apps normal language and is the language version of my keyboards )..they are also Ok with german ..as is notepad ..

BTW "notetab" either lite ( free) or Pro (paid) is way more versatile than notepad ..for everything you would use notepad for ..plus some ..

I need to write in chinese, korean, & japanese.

I think the editors accept french & german because it is the same letters & you just use the punctuation marks & accents?

Notepad (on Windows) won't accept foreign characters, period. It is the most basic text editor. As someone else suggested, there are other Notepad type applications that might allow for other languages.

As for Macromedia stuff, what version are you using? For example, Dreamweaver 4 won't let you paste/code in in asian characters, but Dreamweaver MX will. Same with Fireworks, older versions don't allow asian fonts, newer versions do.

I code pages in Japanese on a regular basis, and used to run into this problem all the time. :) Hope that helps.

Um, I've been using Notepad to cut & paste Korean, Japanese, and Chinese characters for years with no problems. I guess I've been doing something wrong all this time! ;)

I normally have to cut from the source file, as the rendered characters won't usually paste correctly.

Doesn't it depend a lot on your operating system language? The Japanese I can type on my Win98 English computer only works in MS products, and doesn't export well to non-MS products. On my WinXP Japanese computer, I can type Japanese in almost any program. On Mac OS X, I can type Japanese into BBEdit but not jEdit, while in a general English environment.

By the way, one of the "gotchas" with Japanese text is that sometimes you'll FTP a document to your server and discover that it has turned into "mojibake" (gibberish characters). If you have this problem, try uploading the Japanese document as "binary" instead of as "text".
