Simplest solution possible required

Is there a good free WYSIWYG html editor which will allow me to do the following:

View site on local PC in WYSIWYG form
Edit text / add pictures
Easily upload changes to server

It needs to be absolutely simple for the user and needs to do nothing more complex than edit text and add pictures.

Macromedia Contribute seems good - but not free, and it does much more than I need. Any advice would be welcome ...

sounds like you require a CMS not WYSIWYG editor.

Contribute is flawed IMO as it can only operate with sites built using DW templates, and as you say, cost more far than neccessary - not a stable way of doing business.

There are plenty of free and customisable CMS systems that will allow users to make additions to pages.

Try a search for opensourcecms - a good site for comparing and testing the software.

Google coffeecup html editor, it's a decent (cheap) program and has a thirty day trial so you can play with it and see if it suits your needs.

Thanks for the advice. I guess you're right - I need a cms. There seems to be a rather bewildering range of options .... Installation of these systems is daunting, for those with no prior knowledge or skills.
However, I'll start to look through the options.

By the way - I found Webmasterworld via Google.
