Hi, I'm a bit new to this and I'm about to publish my first website.

I keep having problems though re: connecting to a host. When I go on Define sites>connect - it would say "host found, connecting" then after a minute it would say "ftp error - cannot make connection to host"

Now I have put all the correct data needed in define sites>local info and remote info, the ftp settings and everything else is correct. I have left the host directory field blank on Remote page, and I have left the HTTP field blank on Local page. One theory I have is that on the Site Window there is no file in the Remote Site window, it is completely blank, and i haven't the foggiest on how to set one up. Maybe that might have something to do with it? I'm not sure.

Just to add I found this forum via google after looking for related subjects but with no luck, hence I found the thread posted last year by someone called 'Meanweaver' who had the same problem, but who sorted this with firewall info. I left the 'use firewall (in preferences)' blank, I have also enabled it but it doesn't work either, it still hasn't solved this. Just to also add that my dreamweaver package is Dreamweaver 4.

Please help meeeee!

Ensure you are using the right details. ftp.yoursite.com might not work depending, you may want to try using your server no (it'll look something like 00.100.100.50).

Also Try checking 'passive ftp'.

Sometimes I cannot connect via the test button. but the connection works fine in site view...
