I just had my Operating System upgraded from ME to Windows 2002. The gentleman created new drives for me, but I did not fully understand how the drives related to each other. The C drive is still the root drive, but he suggested putting all my software in one drive and my web site into another drive, which we did. He then put my old "C" drive files into a drive we labeled the "E" drive, for temporary files to be later moved to the "D" drive for permanent storage. I was then to delete anything left in the "E" drive, including Program Files which would no longer work and re-format the "E" drive to clean it off. I have not finished moving over everything from the "E" drive to the "D" drive, but I am finding Program Files in at least three drives, which scares me. I pull my website information from the information on my "E" drive presently until I move it over to the "D" drive, where my website is at the moment. However, when I publish my site in Front Page, everythings looks fine and dandy when I check it in Front Page, but there are obvious gaps of information that do not show on my Internet Explorer when I bring up my site on it. BUT, WHEN I CHECK MY SITE ON OTHER COMPUTERS, MOST OF THEM SHOW THE FULL SITE THE WAY IT IS SUPPOSED TO SHOW. Only my home computer Internet Explorer and one other computer at a friends house does not show the entire site. Is this a problem with my Internet Explorer or something else? If it is my computer, then why does one other computer at a friend's house show what mine at home shows and the rest show it correctly? There is also the possibility that I may have inadvertantly saved my site one day to one of the old versions of my site on a different drive, but if I did, why would it post correctly on my computer at work?

Any suggestions?

Maybe try keeping all your files on one or two drives like us mere mortals? Don't upgrade with the olympic champion of musical chairs (drives)?

Probably the reason others can see your site and you can't is that you and they are not looking at the same copy of the site. You are looking at a local version on your computer that got compromised during the drive dance. They are either looking at a version on a seperate webserver, or if it's on your computer, they're looking at the original version in the original location.

Find where they're really looking, and your vision should clear as well.

There's no such thing as Windows 2002. You either have Windows 2000 or Windows XP (Home or Professional version).

Although Microsoft says it's possible, it's rarely a good idea to upgrade from ME. It's a lot safer to do a clean install of Windows 2000 or XP. It takes a bit of effort to reinstall everything, but you'll have a smoother operating system in the end.

Only my home computer Internet Explorer and one other computer at a friends house does not show the entire site.

Sounds like you have the old site cashed in your browser. Empty your browser cache and refresh the browser. Make sure you're all looking at the same URL as well.

Thanks for the quick response guys. My inexperience at this is really showing. My Operating System is now Windows 2000 and it was a new install as opposed to an upgrade.

What is my cache and how do I empty it without deleting my site? Since part of my site was created in Go Live on one drive and another in Front Page on another drive, I am afraid to delete anything unless I am sure what I am doing. I think that everybody else is seeing the site I want them to see. I still don't understand why my Front Page sees it correctly, but my Internet Explorer does not.

After I empty my cache, will recreating my site in Dreamweaver eliminate the problem?

Thanks.

In Internet Explorer you clear the cache here:
Tools ¦ Internet Options... ¦ (General) tab ¦ Temporary Internet files ¦ Delete Files...

These are temporary files your browser saves to increase the rendering speed of pages. You can delete these files safely. IE will just load them again when you go to a site.

After I empty my cache, will recreating my site in Dreamweaver eliminate the problem?

No. That would mean you're recreating your site. That has nothing to do with your browser cache. The two are unrelated.

Thank you Bill. I will try deleting my temporary internet files and see if that solves the problem.
