I have a strange problem with DW since I changed my PC a couple of days ago. When I press [F12] to preview a template page the application seems to freeze for about five seconds as though it is trying to do something but no preview is shown.

It previews normally for standard pages. Can anyone suggest what has happened? (I use IE6.)

Did you check your path to your browser in DW preferences?

Yes I did.

It's a strange thing because the preview works perfectly well with normal pages. It's just templates that won't preview.

Did a little check in DW and it's the same here. I never noticed because Firefox is my default. My template displayed in Firefox and Opera but not IE. Go figure.:)

That's really weird. Anyone else seeing this?

I have no problem doing this Using DWMX & IE6 on Win98 or Using DW4 on XP? Wierd.

DW Templates are notorious for bugs. It's starting to feel like a cliché now but the following has corrected template problems for me in the past: Try clearing your cache in both your browser and using 'recreate site cache' command, if that doesn't work redefine your site. And if you are still seeing the same a softaware re-install might correct the bug.

Thanks for that but it is not a site specific problem. It happens with all my sites.

I just did a bit of testing and it seems to be an IE problem. The sites preview OK in both Netscape and Opera.

I See. I heard here somewhere that there are some conflicts with DWMX and SP2. Could that be it?
There is an update patch you can download from the Macromedia Website.

I have contacted DW support.

For the record ...

I got a reply from DW support and this was an IE problem that was introduced by SP2. I had to enable active content so that I could run files on my hard drive thus ...

1. In IE, Choose Internet Options - Advanced
2. Scroll down to the Security Heading
3. Check the option labeled: Allow active content to run in files on my computer. You can also check the box above this if you want to allow active content to run from CDs.
4. Restart Internet Explorer for the changes to take effect.

Added: This was my first attempt at contacting DW support and they were very efficient and helpful. Registered users get two free support instances in a 90 day period.
