But many said that I must use css/div instead of tables. How will I do it? Please provide many references.

They eat alot of space. At the same time, slow.
I use FP 2002 on a Dell PII 400 running Win98 with a 16GB HD and 256MB of ancient RAM. My editor is open almost 24 hours a day. I've not experienced any major issues with performance. Sure, I've had some minor issues when having 100 pages open in the editor while opening and editing other sites live, but I try not to throw too much at it at once. ;)
Take a look at dreamweaver as an example. It takes too much space and eats big system resources.
That's because it's a powerful program. The more functionality you get, the more load it's going to put on your system resources. For instance, one design program I use often is lightening fast on just about any computer, but that's because the program is Notepad. NO functionality equals a very fast program. If you want something that will actually ease your coding burden, it comes at a cost.
IMO, amidst all the WYSIWYG editors out there, DW is the most customizable and, therefor, the most useful.

I would be inclined to agree. If you want to build a site without using a reasonably hefty piece of software a la DW, then use Notepad or textpad. Not only will you learn more an awful lot quicker, you dont have to fork out loadsa money to get your hands on it.
I've used DW for many years now, and to be honest I now use it pretty much as a text editor anyway. I tend to use the 'split' view, but do all the building in code- I quite like seeing what I'm building as I go along. Having said that, the .css editing panel can be handy when you're pushed for time.
