IE 6 sp2 problem, browser or website?

I have run into a bug, has anyone else had this problem? It only seems to happen on certain computers, not others:

On 1 page of a client's site, when you click the links it opens the page within c:\Documents and settings\local settings\temporary internet files\content.ie5\etc etc rather than http://www.example.com/page.html and all the images are broken, the css doesn't load.

I notice it says IE5 within the url bar, could this be a problem with IE6 SP2? Or the page itself?

Thanks

It sounds like the path is wrong

check the source on the link and see if it has that path in there

It does have the right path, its an absolute url.

Funny thing is it only happens on some computers, not others

Sounds like the classic Peek-A-Boo bug. It's nothing new for IE6 SP2, although it is annoying...

no, I don't think so, the peek a boo looks like something completely different, nothing to do with lkinks opening like that, into your local temp files instead of the webpage..

Maybe a clue is that it is opening a temp folder labled IE5 when its IE6?

Hmm, wierd...

Is the page in Quirks mode? That's really the only other thing I can think of that'd cause this...

OK, I figured it out!
Thank you safecenter .net

IE requests for a web page, if web server responds an invalid Content-Type and the file extension(either in URL or in the filename field of Content-Disposition), the downloaded web page will be opened in the cache directoy. On some systems, a download prompt will pop up, instead openning immediately.

I added a doc-type to the page, no more problem....only took 3 hours of searching to fix it!

Hi,

I am facing the same issue with IE6 SP2 while trying to download a word doc, using a servlet application.

Can you please give some more info about your solution? Where did you exactly add the doc-type info?

Thanks,
Pram
