'IE cannot open site - operation aborted' from PDF link

I've created a CD with one HTML file which has links to a set of PDF's, which in turn contain links to a company website.

When I try to use IE6 or IE7 to open any of the links from any of the PDF's, which I created from Word using the Adobe PDF Maker tool(one of many PDF's with the same issue), I get the following result.

1. Error is 'Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet Site http://www.example.com/tm/Solutions/Embedded/TriggerDecode/default.asp - Operation Aborted.'

2. This happens only once - then if you reload the page, all is fine. If you click on any other link on any of the other PDF's I made for this site, they all work fine, after the first time.

My client reports that this happened on two Vista machines, but not on a third identically configured Vista machine. It also didn't happen on a Mac.

Can someone help?

There are a lot of pieces to this puzzle. Are the PDF files on the CD or are they online? If they're on the CD, then you may be running into some of IE's local machine security "features".

Good question and I asked it before of the client but did not get an answer. I will ask again right now.
