OpenAI considers taking on Google with browser, the Information reports. I wonder where these rumours are coming from and how robust they are in light of the monopoly rulings in the US, and possible breaking up with the sale of Chrome.

The reporters are Erin Woo, Sahil Patel and Amir Efrati with solid bio's linking them to potentially strong sources and reputations around tech and finance. So this isn't a hoax rumour imo

The Verge had mentioned OpenAI as a possible buyer for Chrome in an article a few weeks ago. But let's be honest, that would be like letting the fox guard the chickens. On the other hand, hardly any company can afford Chrome. It doesn't make a profit, it just generates costs.
