Fake Google PR?

Hello everyone from a new member. It's good to be part of the WebmasterWorld family.

Now I have a question. Sometimes I get link exchange requests from websites with suspiciously high PR, especially on some pages. For instance there's this website that has a Directory type resource directory. The main Directory page has PR0, but some of the pages it sends to (including the one where my link would be located) are PR6. My question is: can this PR value be fake? Is it possible to make your PR look higher and if so how do I go about finding what the real PR value is?
